Etchings
 |
My printmaking efforts have centered on intaglio (etching) processes,
and involve mostly hardground etching and aquatint techniques on
zinc and copper plates. I print on Rives BFK White paper in small
editions. The color is plate applied and each print is an artist
imprint.
I love this medium for the total opposite in "mark making"
possibilities
that it presents, compared to watercolor. It's all about line and
contrast,
and is, first and foremost, a drawing medium rather than a painting
medium. Images are built up from lightest to darkest in both the
aquatint
and hard ground layers, so all elements of the tonal composition have
to be determined before one begins - very different fom my painting
process.
I am now scanning all my etchings, and they should appear here as the
scans are complete. I'm overdue for a venture into the
monoprint process, which I've enjoyed in the past. Look for those to
come.
